CAF Disciplinary Board Issues Sanctions for Misconduct

The CAF Disciplinary Board, announced a series of sanctions following incidents of misconduct, security lapses, and fan disturbances during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Qualifiers and CAF Interclub Competitions.

These actions, detailed on CAF’s website on December 29, underscore the organization’s commitment to maintaining order and ensuring the integrity of its tournaments.

Equatorial Guinea was fined USD 25,000 (suspended) for failing to provide adequate security during their AFCON 2025 Qualifiers match against Togo on November 14, 2024.

An additional USD 5,000 penalty was imposed due to pitch invasions by supporters.

The Libyan Football Federation was fined USD 50,000 for violations of Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code during their match against Benin on November 18, 2024.

Libya is also required to play their next two official home matches behind closed doors.

Benin’s Football Federation was fined USD 5,000 for non-cooperation during their qualifier against Rwanda.

An additional USD 50,000 fine was imposed for post-match misconduct by officials, with USD 25,000 suspended.

CS Sfaxien, a Tunisian club faced a USD 20,000 fine with USD 10,000 of which is suspended for 12 months, after fans threw pyrotechnic devices during their Confederation Cup game against CS Constantine (Algeria) on November 27, 2024.

USM Alger received a USD 10,000 fine, with USD 5,000 suspended for 12 months, after fans used smoke bombs during their match against Orapa United (Botswana) on November 27, 2024.

CR Belouizdad was fined USD 10,000, with half suspended for 12 months, for smoke bomb usage by fans during their Champions League match against Orlando Pirates (South Africa) on November 26, 2024.

AS FAR, a Moroccan club was fined USD 5,000 for fan’s use of smoke bombs during their Champions League match against Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) on December 7, 2024.

An additional USD 10,000 fine was issued for supporters’ use of laser pointers.

A complaint filed by the Guinean Football Federation regarding match No. 143 between Tanzania and Guinea was found admissible but ultimately dismissed, leaving the result unchanged.

CAF reiterated its dedication to curbing disruptive behavior and reinforcing security measures across its tournaments.

The disciplinary actions reflect a broader effort to ensure a safer and more respectful environment for players, officials, and fans.
