The management of BUA Group has dismissed reports suggesting that its Akwa Ibom-based BUA Refinery and Petrochemicals project is 90% complete.

In a statement released on Saturday, the company clarified that the 200,000 barrels-per-day refinery is far from completion. However, it reiterated its commitment to meeting the projected timeline for the project, which is set for completion by the end of 2025.

The statement also highlighted ongoing upgrades to the company’s other energy projects, including a mini Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant.

Once operational, the refinery is expected to produce essential products such as gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and propylene—key components in the petrochemicals industry.

The completion of the BUA Refinery and Petrochemicals will mark a significant addition to Nigeria’s growing list of private refineries, further bolstering the nation’s energy sector.
