Nigeria striker and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner, Brown Ideye, has signed with nine-time Nigerian champions, Enyimba, until the end of the 2024/25 season. The announcement was confirmed by the club’s Sporting Director and former international, Ifeanyi Ekwueme.
Speaking with PUNCH Online on Tuesday, Ekwueme stated, “Yes, the talks have been going on for a while, and we completed it yesterday.
He will be with us until the end of the season, and we believe he will bolster our team’s attack as we compete in the league and the continent.”
The 36-year-old forward has been without a club since parting ways with Kuwaiti side Al Yarmouk in 2022. His move to Enyimba signifies a return to Nigeria’s top flight, following in the footsteps of fellow internationals Ahmed Musa and Abdullahi Shehu, who now play for Kano Pillars.
This signing also marks Ideye’s return to the domestic league 17 years after leaving Ocean Boys in 2006. Notably, an earlier move to Rivers United in October fell through, paving the way for his eventual deal with the Aba-based club.
Enyimba faces a challenging schedule in the coming days, with a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match against Sunshine Stars on Wednesday, followed by a trip to Maputo, Mozambique, for their third CAF Confederation Cup group game against Black Bulls.
The club hopes Ideye’s experience will prove pivotal as they pursue success both domestically and on the continental stage.
