The House of Representatives has called on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to suspend the recent increase in Automated Teller Machine (ATM) transaction charges and the removal of free withdrawals for customers using other banks’ ATMs.
The resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by lawmaker Marcus Onobun, who drew attention to a CBN circular implementing the policy.
Lawmakers expressed concern that the move would further strain Nigerians financially. They urged the CBN to put the policy on hold until proper consultations are held with relevant committees on banking, finance, and financial institutions.
