Dr. Doyin Okupe, a former presidential spokesperson, has passed away at the age of 72. His death was confirmed on Friday, March 7, 2025.
Sources close to the family disclosed that Okupe had been critically ill in the weeks leading up to his demise. His passing has been linked to cancer. He was first diagnosed with prostate cancer 16 years ago and later battled sarcoma in his right shoulder. In October 2023, he was hospitalized for prostate cancer and flown to Israel for treatment. However, his condition reportedly did not improve as he and his family had hoped.
Okupe, who once served as the Director-General of Peter Obi’s Presidential Campaign, stepped down from the role following a court conviction for money laundering. After the 2023 general election, he resigned from the Labour Party and later emerged as a vocal supporter of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
A seasoned political figure, Okupe also served as a senior adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
