The Borno State Police Command has carried out an assessment and confidence-building patrol in Maiduguri following the recent flooding that impacted the state capital and its surroundings.
In a statement released on Saturday by the Supervising Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, the police patrol aimed to reassure residents and reaffirm the command’s dedication to maintaining law and order amidst the challenges posed by the flood.
The Commissioner of Police, Yusufu Lawal, led the patrol, visiting key areas such as Maiduguri Monday Market, Bulabulin, and Gwange.
According to the statement, the visits were part of efforts to “strengthen public trust and enhance the relationship between the police and the community,” in line with the principle that “the people are the police, and the police are the people.”
The Commissioner also inspected police divisions in Bulabulin and Gwange, both affected by the flood, assessing the damage and offering encouragement to officers.
The statement noted that the CP’s support was intended to motivate personnel to continue their efforts in ensuring public safety and security.
Additionally, CP Lawal inspected the Gwange Cemetery, where a submerged and partially collapsed perimeter fence was noted. The police command urged the public to keep a safe distance from the cemetery and cooperate with officers during their duties.
