The Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has assured Nigerians that the ongoing crisis within the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will soon be resolved.

Speaking during the party’s state congress at the Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre in Yenagoa over the weekend, Diri emphasized the PDP’s enduring strength as the nation’s most formidable opposition party, asserting that it would overcome current challenges and eventually return to power at the center.

“The drama at the national level of our party is being addressed, and this party will not go down. There is no democracy without opposition,” Governor Diri stated.

He underscored the importance of the PDP’s role in the democratic process and reiterated the party’s commitment to capturing power again.

Diri praised the members of the Bayelsa State PDP chapter for their unwavering loyalty and dedication, which he credited for the successful and peaceful state congress.

He highlighted the consensus built across all local governments as key to the harmonious outcome, noting that those who did not return to the state executive were affected by zoning and constitutional considerations.

The governor also extended his gratitude to the state congress committee, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) observer team, and all delegates and contributors to the congress’s success.

He encouraged the new state executive to maintain the spirit that has kept the party strong in Bayelsa since 1999, urging them to continue their service to the people.

In his acceptance speech, re-elected state PDP chairman, Solomon Agwana, expressed his gratitude to party leaders and members for their trust.

He pledged to continue steering the party’s affairs in accordance with its constitution and to support Governor Diri in fulfilling his mandate.

Chairman of the electoral committee of the congress, Hon. Olasupo Abiodun, commended the orderly conduct of party members during the congress and expressed satisfaction with the entire process.
