The Bauchi State Government has submitted a supplementary budget proposal of N94.676 billion, currently pending approval by the State House of Assembly.
The proposal was presented on Tuesday by Deputy Majority Leader Babayo Akuyam, on behalf of Governor Bala Mohammed. The supplementary budget aims to fast-track the execution of key projects designed to improve the living conditions of Bauchi residents.
Akuyam explained that the initiative aligns with Section 122 of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, emphasizing the government’s focus on accelerating infrastructure development, enhancing human capital, and advancing health and education services.
In a related move, the assembly has also established a Food Security and Nutrition Committee to address hunger and malnutrition across the state. According to Akuyam, this committee will prioritize the nutritional needs of vulnerable groups, including women, children, and internally displaced persons.
The committee’s mandate includes implementing food and nutrition programs in coordination with the State Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning, and Multilateral Coordination, in line with the National Multisectoral Strategic Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition.
