The Nigerian Army Headquarters has launched an investigation into allegations against Brigadier General M.A. Sadiq, the former Commander of the 3 Brigade, Kano.
Reports suggest that General Sadiq was relieved of his duties amid accusations of withholding benefits meant for soldiers under his command and other claims of misappropriation during his tenure.
A military source confirmed that the general is currently in custody, pending the outcome of the investigation. “The Army Headquarters is handling this case directly.
Allegations have been made by soldiers about entitlements being withheld, among other concerns. He was invited for questioning and remains in custody,” the source stated.
When contacted, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, referred inquiries to the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu.
In his statement, Nwachukwu confirmed that General Sadiq is under investigation for “administrative discrepancies” and has been removed from his position to allow for a thorough inquiry.
“The immediate past Commander of the 3 Brigade, Brigadier General M.A. Sadiq, is undergoing a military investigation into administrative discrepancies during his command.
As a result, he has been relieved of his duties to ensure a proper and thorough investigation,” Nwachukwu explained.
He emphasized the Nigerian Army’s commitment to discipline, noting that misconduct or actions that undermine the institution’s integrity will not be tolerated.
“As a self-regulatory body built on the principles of discipline, justice, and accountability, the Nigerian Army has zero tolerance for indiscipline or any actions that could compromise our values.”
Nwachukwu assured the public that the investigation would be fair and transparent, with appropriate actions taken if the allegations are substantiated. “The Nigerian Army remains dedicated to upholding the highest standards of integrity and transparency.
We guarantee that this investigation will be impartial and conducted in accordance with our established procedures.”
The outcome of the investigation is eagerly awaited, as the Army strives to maintain its reputation for accountability and discipline.
