The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, committed to systematic troop rotations to prevent operational fatigue and sustain morale among soldiers on the frontlines.
Speaking at the COAS Annual Conference in Abuja on Monday, Oluyede emphasized the importance of prioritizing the physical and mental well-being of personnel to enhance operational effectiveness.
“I am dedicated to maintaining systematic troop rotations to relieve personnel who have overstayed in the field and to introduce fresh forces into our operational theatres,” Oluyede stated.
“This practice is essential for preserving the physical and mental well-being of our troops, preventing fatigue, boosting morale across the Force, and ultimately enhancing operational effectiveness,” he continued.
He further reassured Nigerians of the Army’s unwavering commitment to scaling up operations in 2025, with plans to acquire more platforms and combat enablers to enhance the Army’s capabilities.
“Our determination to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity must be stronger than ever,” Oluyede affirmed.
“In the coming year, the Nigerian Army will upscale both kinetic and non-kinetic efforts across all theatres of operations to ensure peace is fully restored across the country,” he stated.
Highlighting the Army’s progress, Oluyede noted the refurbishment of combat enablers like T-72 tanks, Armoured Personnel Carriers, and artillery pieces, which have significantly improved operational effectiveness.
He also pledged to sustain the acquisition of necessary platforms and combat enablers in the coming year.
In addition to operational priorities, the COAS outlined plans to enhance welfare support systems for soldiers and their families, including the widows and dependents of fallen heroes.
“I am fully committed to upholding and enhancing existing welfare schemes,” he said.
“This includes timely financial assistance, access to healthcare, educational sponsorship for children or dependents of personnel, and other essential services aimed at providing stability to those affected by the sacrifices of our courageous colleagues,” he continued.
During the conference, Oluyede presented cheques totaling millions of naira to the next-of-kin of deceased personnel under the Group Life Insurance scheme.
He also boosted morale by awarding Hilux vehicles to 12 Regimental Sergeant Majors as part of his welfare initiatives.
The COAS reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to supporting personnel who have incurred disabilities in the line of duty, ensuring their sacrifices are honored and their families cared for.
