The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, expressed strong confidence on Saturday, asserting that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would fail to secure a single vote at his polling unit.
Speaking after casting his vote at PU003, Uwessan 1, in Esan Central Local Government Area, Okpebholo highlighted the overwhelming support he enjoys from his community.
“This is my home, and my people love me. PDP or whatever won’t get a single vote here. I have no reason to fear,” he boldly stated, dismissing concerns about security as exaggerated attempts to discourage voter turnout.
He also took aim at Governor Godwin Obaseki’s leadership, suggesting that efforts were being made to create unrest but maintained that the situation remained peaceful.
Okpebholo praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its handling of the election, stating, “What I am seeing here is proof that INEC is getting it right.”
The election, featuring Okpebholo, PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo, Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata, and 14 other contenders, signals the end of Governor Obaseki’s eight-year administration. Voting is underway across the state, including at Obaseki’s polling unit in Oredo LGA, as citizens anticipate a new democratic transition.
