The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a sweeping victory in the Katsina State local government elections, winning all 34 chairmanship positions and the 361 councillorship seats contested in the poll held on Saturday, February 15, 2025.
Announcing the results on Sunday, February 16, at the commission’s headquarters, the Chairman of the Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission (KTSIEC), Lawal Alhassan, confirmed the APC’s dominant performance.
“In all 34 local government areas, the APC won both the chairmanship and councillorship seats with overwhelming support from voters,” Alhassan stated.
He further revealed that five political parties participated in the elections, namely the Accord (A), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), and Boot Party (BP).
Alhassan also acknowledged delays in result submissions from some local government areas, which slightly postponed the final announcement.
“As of midnight on election day, only 24 out of the 34 local government areas had submitted their results,” he explained. “The remaining 10 LGAs, including Batsari, Charanchi, Dandume, Daura, Funtua, Kankia, Katsina, Mani, Dutsinma, and Sabuwa, submitted their results the following day.”
Meanwhile, former President Muhammadu Buhari was among those who cast their votes. He was seen on Saturday exercising his civic duty in his hometown, Daura. Buhari, who led Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, handed over to President Bola Tinubu.
