The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspect involved in the trafficking of teenagers, ranging in age from 13 to 16, to neighboring countries.
During a press briefing in Awka, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that the suspect had trafficked several teenagers, some of whom had been transported to Ghana.
Fortunately, a number of the victims have been rescued and safely returned to Nigeria.
Efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the trafficking ring.
The arrest was made following a surge in reports of missing teenagers across the state.
In response, Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Itam directed a thorough investigation and mobilization of officers to combat the issue.
“The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation, which will aid in rescuing additional victims and tracking down other gang members,” Ikenga stated.
The investigation is ongoing, as police work to dismantle the trafficking network and bring all responsible to justice.
