The All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed the inauguration of its National Campaign Council ahead of the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election.

This was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, via the party’s official X handle.

According to Morka, the event, which had been scheduled to hold on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, has been put on hold.

He added that a new date for the inauguration would be announced later, while assuring party stakeholders of the APC’s commitment to delivering a strong performance in the November 8 governorship poll.

“The party deeply regrets any inconvenience this change may cause and assures all stakeholders of its unwavering commitment to ensuring a successful outing in the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election,” the statement read.

The postponement comes as political parties intensify preparations for what is expected to be one of the most fiercely contested elections in recent years, with the APC, the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party (LP) all eyeing victory.

Anambra has historically been a challenging battleground for the APC. The state has been under APGA’s control since 2006, with successive attempts by both the APC and PDP to seize power proving unsuccessful.

In the 2021 governorship election, APC candidate Senator Andy Uba came a distant third behind Charles Soludo of APGA, who emerged winner, and Valentine Ozigbo of the PDP. The result underscored the party’s struggle to gain a foothold in the South-East, where it has traditionally faced stiff resistance.

Despite these setbacks, the APC has continued to strengthen its political structure in Anambra, leveraging federal presence and forging alliances with local political figures. The upcoming November poll is widely viewed as a critical test of the party’s ability to expand its influence in the region.
