The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed its Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, as the Acting National Chairman of the party, following the resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, stepped down from the party’s top leadership position on Thursday. His resignation was confirmed in a statement issued by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
“His resignation, which is effective immediately, was offered to enable him attend to urgent and important personal matters,” Morka stated.
The statement further disclosed that Ganduje’s resignation was conveyed in a letter addressed to the National Working Committee (NWC) through the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru. In the letter, the former chairman expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu “for the opportunity to serve the party at the highest level.”
In the wake of Ganduje’s exit, President Tinubu has directed Dalori to assume the role of Acting National Chairman pending the convening of a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to formally fill the vacancy.
Ganduje, who hails from the North-West geopolitical zone, was appointed APC National Chairman in August 2023 after the resignation of his predecessor, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, from the North Central.
His tenure was marked by internal party tensions, especially from members who opposed his emergence on the grounds that it breached APC’s zoning formula.
The former Kano governor served two terms between May 2015 and May 2023. In January 2025, President Tinubu appointed him Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and he is also reportedly being considered for a non-career ambassadorial position.
