Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has expressed his deep sorrow following the passing of his wife, Pastor Patience Eno, in a heartfelt broadcast on Friday.
Reflecting on their 38 years of marriage, the governor described his late wife as the embodiment of a virtuous woman, emphasizing the profound void her death has left in his life.
Nine days after her unexpected passing, Governor Eno acknowledged the overwhelming support he has received from both near and far, quoting biblical encouragement from 2 Corinthians 4:8 to highlight his resilience during this difficult time. He also expressed gratitude for the numerous messages of condolence and the unity displayed by the people of Akwa Ibom, who set aside political differences to honor his late wife.
Governor Eno mentioned the remarkable gesture by the youth, who postponed their planned national protests out of respect for Pastor Patience Eno. He further pledged to carry on her legacy, particularly through the Golden Initiative for All (GIFA), a cause she passionately championed.
Despite the personal tragedy, Governor Eno reassured the public that the government remains fully committed to serving the people of Akwa Ibom. He also thanked security agencies for maintaining peace during this period and urged them to continue their vigilance, especially as the local government elections draw near.
Governor Eno concluded by requesting privacy for his family during their mourning period, promising that burial arrangements would be shared in due time. He also expressed hope, grounded in his faith, as he navigates this challenging chapter.
