The Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) has strongly denied allegations that its medical staff removed a patient’s womb without consent.
The claims, which gained traction after being aired during a radio program in Kaduna, have sparked widespread public criticism.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Abdurrahman Sheshe, dismissed the accusations as unfounded and harmful to the institution’s reputation.
He clarified that the incident in question dates back to 2012, not 2017 as claimed, and involved a life-saving surgical procedure performed due to complications arising during pregnancy.
According to the hospital, all necessary medical protocols, including obtaining informed consent, were strictly adhered to before the surgery. Dr. Sheshe assured that the procedure was carried out in the patient’s best interest, with the primary goal of saving her life.
To address the allegations and maintain public trust, AKTH announced that it has forwarded the case details to the Federal Ministry of Health and other relevant authorities for investigation.
The hospital reaffirmed its commitment to full transparency and pledged to cooperate with the agencies involved to establish the truth.
In light of the controversy, the hospital management has called on the public to disregard the allegations, emphasizing its dedication to upholding high standards of care and ensuring quality healthcare delivery for Nigerians.
AKTH reiterated its commitment to ethical medical practices and reassured patients of its unwavering focus on their health and well-being.
