Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Afam Osigwe, has officially assumed office as the 32nd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) following his swearing-in ceremony held in Lagos on Thursday.
Osigwe, who will serve a two-year term, succeeds the immediate past president, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Yakubu Maikyau.
During his inaugural speech, Osigwe extended an olive branch to his opponents in the election, Tobenna Erojikwe and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chukwuka Ikwazom, praising them for their decorum throughout the campaign.
He called on them to collaborate with him in advancing the association’s objectives.
Osigwe pledged to lead an inclusive administration that not only unifies the NBA but also propels it forward.
He assured members that under his leadership, the NBA will remain vigilant in holding both federal and state governments accountable, ensuring that their policies promote good governance.
The inauguration of Osigwe and other newly sworn-in national officers marks the conclusion of the NBA’s week-long annual general conference, which commenced on August 23rd.
As of the time of this report, Osigwe was still delivering his inaugural address.
