The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified efforts to secure the release of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State by deploying aerial surveillance platforms to support ongoing search-and-rescue operations.

The surveillance missions are aimed at strengthening intelligence gathering, improving situational awareness and assisting security agencies in tracking developments following the abductions in Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities.

In a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Air Force said it has continued to provide aerial intelligence support as security operatives work towards the safe rescue of the victims.

“The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has continued to provide aerial surveillance support to ongoing efforts aimed at rescuing teachers and pupils abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State,” Ejodame said.

According to the statement, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed the intervention during a courtesy visit by Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh, who represented the Chief of the Air Staff.

Makinde revealed that the Air Force swiftly deployed an aerial surveillance platform shortly after the abduction was reported, providing critical intelligence to aid rescue efforts.

He noted that information generated from the surveillance missions has helped security agencies monitor the situation and coordinate operations aimed at securing the victims’ release.

The governor appealed to residents to remain calm, patient and cooperative, assuring them that all available resources were being deployed to ensure the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.

Makinde also praised the Chief of the Air Staff and the Nigerian Air Force for their prompt response, noting that the intervention came at a time when Oyo State’s newly acquired aerial assets are still being assembled at the NAF Base in Lagos.

He explained that the state procured the aircraft following consultations with the Air Force to guarantee access to maintenance support, engineering expertise and pilot training.

According to him, the assets will significantly enhance security operations across Oyo State and neighbouring states once they become fully operational.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, Suleh reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at ensuring the safe return of the abducted victims.

He also commended the Oyo State Government for its continued support for NAF projects and infrastructure development.

The Air Force reiterated its commitment to collaborating with other security agencies and stakeholders in safeguarding lives and property while addressing security challenges across the country.
