Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to set up three holding camps for residents displaced by the communal crisis in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun.
The governor issued the directive after overseeing the distribution of food and relief materials to affected persons through the palaces of the troubled towns.
“Now that the distribution of food and relief materials has commenced, I have directed the state emergency agency to proceed to set up camps for displaced people,” Adeleke stated.
He further explained that each town would have a designated camp, possibly within its town hall or any suitable location chosen by the community. Security agencies, he added, would screen displaced persons before their transportation to the camps.
“The emergency agency will provide food materials and other essential items for the displaced people while the situation normalizes,” he assured, adding that SEMA has also sought additional support from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Adeleke also praised security agencies for swiftly implementing his directive on the prosecution of those responsible for the crisis.
“All the culprits must be brought to book. There must be accountability. I expect suspects to be charged to court as soon as possible,” he said.
Meanwhile, the 24-hour curfew remains in effect despite heightened security surveillance in the affected areas.
