The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced a three-day national mourning period in honour of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away recently.
The mourning will begin on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, and will be observed across all chapters and structures of the party nationwide.
In a press statement issued on Monday, the ADC’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated that all political engagements and public communications by the party will be put on hold during the mourning period.
The decision, according to the party, is a mark of respect for Buhari’s enduring legacy and service to Nigeria.
Highlighting the significance of Buhari’s contributions, the party noted that he served the country in multiple capacities — first as a soldier, then as a military Head of State, and later as a democratically elected President.
The ADC acknowledged his sense of duty, personal discipline, and unwavering commitment to public service as defining traits of his leadership.
The party also called on Nigerians to reflect on the values President Buhari stood for, such as integrity, humility, and selfless service.
It described his leadership style as one that resonated deeply with ordinary Nigerians, particularly the underprivileged who remained devoted to him throughout his political journey.
The ADC concluded by urging the public to let Buhari’s memory serve as a reminder of the moral standards expected from leaders, now and in the future.
