Hillard Etta, a former Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has dismissed the chances of an opposition coalition unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, Etta expressed doubts about the ability of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Labour Party (LP) to unite effectively against the ruling party.
He recalled that in 2019, the APC triumphed over Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who were on the same presidential ticket. He also noted that while the party faced setbacks in the 2023 elections, including losing Kaduna State—once considered an APC stronghold—to the opposition, it still maintained a strong national presence.
“We believe it will be challenging for these various interests to find common ground to defeat President Tinubu in 2027,” Etta stated.
His remarks come amid growing speculations about a possible merger among opposition parties to mount a stronger challenge against the APC in the next presidential election.
