The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has invited former President Olusegun Obasanjo to tour its rehabilitated Port Harcourt refinery. This comes in response to Obasanjo’s recent comments questioning the effectiveness of the refinery’s rehabilitation efforts.

Obasanjo had earlier criticized the state of the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries, suggesting that Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) doubted the refinery’s functionality. He also accused the NNPCL of misleading Nigerians by claiming its refineries were operational.

In a statement issued on Thursday, January 2, NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye called on Obasanjo to personally assess the progress made.

“We extend an open invitation to President Obasanjo for a tour of the rehabilitated refineries to witness firsthand the progress made under the new NNPC Limited,” Soneye said. “We invite our esteemed former president to join us in this effort as we continue to deliver energy security for our nation and provide tangible benefits to Nigerians.”

Soneye further highlighted the importance of Obasanjo’s experience and insights, emphasizing their value to the company.

“As part of this transformation, NNPC Limited has gone beyond oil and gas to become an integrated energy company. One of our notable achievements is the complete rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PhRC) and Warri Refinery,” he added.

The invitation underscores NNPCL’s commitment to transparency and collaboration as it seeks to address energy security concerns in Nigeria.
