Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, officially signed the ₦1.1 trillion 2025 Appropriation Bill into law.

The signing ceremony, held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, marked a significant step in the state’s financial planning for the upcoming year.

In his remarks, Governor Fubara commended the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led Rivers State House of Assembly for their diligence in passing the budget swiftly.

He affirmed that the Oko-Jumbo-led Assembly remains the only legitimate legislative body in the state, dismissing claims from another faction.

The governor took a firm stance against Martins Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring their roles as legislators null and void.

Despite recent attempts by the defectors to retract their decisions, Fubara maintained that the disqualification was final.

“These lawmakers had sufficient time to reconsider their actions, but their disloyalty is irreversible,” the governor stated, adding that no governor in Nigeria has faced the level of disrespect he has endured.

The defectors are known to be aligned with former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who has been at odds with Governor Fubara.

Fubara emphasized his commitment to steering Rivers State toward progress, stating that the ₦1.1 trillion budget, valid until December 31, 2025, outlines the state’s financial priorities and includes 12 key sections.

This decisive move by the governor highlights his resolve to maintain order and focus on the development of Rivers State.
