Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, lauded the restoration of the Warri Refinery as a landmark achievement in Nigeria’s petroleum sector, describing it as a “New Year gift to Nigerians.”
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, on Tuesday, the governor congratulated President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for successfully reviving the 125,000 barrels per day (bpd) Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company.
“The restoration of the Warri Refinery represents a pivotal turnaround in the nation’s petroleum sector,” the statement read.
“I commend President Tinubu for his reforms in the sector, which are already yielding positive results for the advancement of the economy.
I urge Nigerians to support the president’s efforts,” the statement continued.
Governor Okpebholo expressed optimism about the prospects of the petroleum industry, highlighting the potential impact of the simultaneous operation of the Warri, Port Harcourt, and Dangote refineries.
“With these refineries working together, there is renewed hope that the petroleum sector is on the path to a remarkable transformation,” he added.
Okpebholo also reaffirmed Edo State’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” aimed at restoring Nigeria’s status as a leading hub for crude oil refining in Africa.
“I join numerous Nigerians in congratulating President Tinubu and the NNPCL under the leadership of Mele Kyari for this successful milestone.
It is undoubtedly a New Year gift to the nation,” Okpebholo stated.
