Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will experience partial blackouts over the weekend as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) undertakes maintenance at two key transmission substations.
In a statement issued on Saturday, TCN announced that its engineers would carry out scheduled maintenance to ensure the optimal performance of its power equipment.
The exercise is expected to disrupt electricity supply in several areas of Abuja on both Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, maintenance will be conducted at the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation.
The exercise, scheduled between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., involves work on a 60MVA power transformer and its associated switchgear. During this period, power supply to Gwagwalada and its environs will be unavailable for four hours.
Similarly, on Sunday, maintenance activities will shift to the Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation. From 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., engineers will work on another 60MVA power transformer, resulting in power interruptions in several areas, including Wuye, EFCC, Federal Medical Centre, Coca-Cola, Idu Railway Station, Citec, and Life Camp.
TCN apologised for the inconvenience caused by the maintenance, especially during the festive season, emphasizing that the exercise is necessary for the optimal performance of power infrastructure.
The company also recalled that earlier in December, it had postponed a planned maintenance operation at the Gwagwalada Transmission Substation due to complaints about inadequate power supply from FCT residents.
Residents in affected areas have been urged to bear with the temporary disruptions as TCN works to enhance power delivery reliability.
