The Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo (SAN), has raised concerns over the unlawful transfer of state-owned assets into private hands, a year after the passing of former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN).

In a statement issued in Akure on Friday, Dr. Ajulo described the situation as alarming and called for immediate accountability. “As Attorney General, I must say, this is wrong; we cannot continue on this path,” he said, condemning the alleged misappropriation of public resources.

Ajulo revealed that some transactions involving state assets were facilitated using forged signatures prior to Akeredolu’s death, highlighting the need for transparency. “I must ensure that Ondo State operates within the framework of our constitution and laws. Law enforcement and regulatory agencies must be fully accountable,” he added.

He also expressed concern over attempts to suppress inquiries, accusing vested interests of resorting to blackmail and baseless accusations against Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his administration. “Some individuals allege that the governor is tarnishing Akeredolu’s legacy. But how? When? Where?” he asked, dismissing the claims as unfounded.

Reflecting on the late Akeredolu’s governance, Ajulo stated, “The Arakunrin Akeredolu I knew would never have allowed state funds to be exploited like this.”

The Attorney General called on those implicated in the misappropriation of public assets to come forward or face legal consequences. He also proposed a comprehensive audit of state assets to restore accountability and ensure public resources are used for the benefit of all citizens.

Ajulo praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for his leadership over the past year, describing his approach as pragmatic and visionary. “Your commitment lays a solid foundation for advancing infrastructure and upholding the rule of law,” he said, emphasizing that the governor’s initiatives honor Akeredolu’s legacy while reinforcing fairness and justice.

The statement underscores the need for urgent reforms and accountability to protect public resources in Ondo State.
