Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, visited two communities affected by a military airstrike that mistakenly targeted civilians, resulting in at least 10 deaths and multiple injuries.
Defying the challenging terrain, Governor Aliyu joined residents for funeral prayers and expressed deep sympathy over the tragic incident.
He described the bombing as an error during a military operation aimed at neutralizing armed criminals terrorizing the region.
“We consider this as a mistake because the same military had, on several occasions, successfully raided criminal hideouts in the state,” Aliyu said.
He assured residents that a thorough investigation would be conducted to prevent a recurrence, adding, “We pray to Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased and grant strength to their families.”
Accompanied by APC leader Senator Aliyu Wamakko and Minister of Labour and Employment Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, the governor announced a donation of ₦20 million to support the bereaved families.
The Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa, also revealed additional assistance, including 100 bags of foodstuffs and full coverage of medical expenses for the injured.
The visit underscored the government’s commitment to addressing the tragic incident and supporting the affected communities.
