The Joint Task Force South-East, codenamed Operation UDO KA, has neutralized 13 members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and arrested three suspected kidnappers in ongoing clearance operations across the region.

This was disclosed on Monday in Enugu by the task force’s spokesman, Lt. Col. Jonah Unuakhalu, who emphasized that the operations aim to ensure a secure and peaceful environment during the festive season.

Lt. Col. Unuakhalu quoted the Force Commander, Maj. Gen. Hassan Dada, urging citizens to support the task force by providing timely and credible information. “Security is everybody’s business. It is not in the hands of security agencies alone. When you see something, say something by calling the JTF Operation UDO KA’s toll-free line—193 and press Option 2 to speak directly to Headquarters,” he said.

Successful Operations

Kidnapper Encounter in Enugu: On December 21, troops of Sector 1 ambushed suspected kidnappers along Amouka-Umouka Road in Udi Local Government Area. One suspect was neutralized, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. Items recovered included an AK-47 rifle, magazines, ammunition, phones, ATM cards, cash, and other personal items.

IPOB Clearance in Anambra: On December 16, troops in Sector 5 conducted clearance operations in Mbosi and Isseke, Ihiala Local Government Area. Three IPOB members were neutralized, and weapons including AK-47 rifles, Dane guns, and loaded magazines were seized. Additionally, a shrine used for fortification and a house belonging to a commander were destroyed.

Earlier patrols in the Ihiala-Orlu axis yielded the recovery of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and their components, further curbing IPOB’s operational capabilities.

Arrest of Suspected Kidnappers in Abia: Acting on intelligence, troops apprehended three suspected kidnappers on December 14 in Obingwa Local Government Area. The suspects, traveling in a stolen tricycle, attempted to evade capture but were intercepted. Recovered items included firearms, ammunition, magazines, and personal effects.

Commitment to Regional Security

The task force reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining security in the South-East. Lt. Col. Unuakhalu called on residents to remain vigilant and proactive in supporting the military’s efforts to eliminate threats.

“The troops will continue their operations to deny criminals and armed groups freedom of action, ensuring the safety of lives and property during the Yuletide and beyond,” he concluded.
