Nigerian troops have reportedly neutralized several terrorists during a raid on their hideouts in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the operation was conducted on Friday by troops of the 1 Brigade in collaboration with Operation Forest Yinzuya (OPFY). The offensive was launched after weeks of intelligence gathering on the terrorists’ activities in the region.
During the raid, the troops, supported by air strikes, engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, resulting in multiple casualties and forcing others to retreat. An unspecified number of terrorists were reportedly killed, with additional strikes targeting those attempting to escape with stolen cattle.
Three motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists were recovered during the operation.
This development follows another recent incident in Zamfara State, where an explosive device detonated on the Gusau-Dansadau bridge on Wednesday, killing eight people traveling in a Golf car.
The Zamfara State Police Command attributed the explosion to the Lakurawa terrorist group.
Efforts to maintain security in the region continue as authorities intensify operations against insurgents and banditry.
