The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the member representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency of Imo State and spokesperson for the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), over allegations of gross indiscipline, insubordination, and anti-party activities.

The expulsion, effective immediately, was announced in a statement issued on Friday by the Imo PDP Publicity Secretary, Lancelot Obiak. According to the statement, the decision followed a letter dated December 5, 2024, from the Ideato Local Government chapter of the party, signed by its Chairman, Hon. ThankGod Okeke, and Secretary, Onyebuchi Umeh.

The statement read: “The expulsion was conveyed in a letter by the Ideato LGA chapter of the party dated December 5, 2024, and signed by the LGA Chairman, Hon. ThankGod Okeke, and the Secretary, Onyebuchi Umeh, which they addressed to the State Chairman.

“The expulsion followed the report of the party’s disciplinary committee, dated November 27, 2024, which investigated misconduct charges against Ugochinyere in line with Section 57 (1-4) of the PDP constitution 2017 as amended.”

The disciplinary action stemmed from Ugochinyere’s suspension at his Umuopia/Umukegwu ward on October 14, 2024. The lawmaker allegedly ignored invitations to appear before the ward Executive Committee to address allegations of misconduct. After failing to comply, a report was submitted to the LGA Executive Committee, which unanimously adopted it on December 5, 2024, leading to his expulsion.

The statement further detailed Ugochinyere’s violations, including:

Failure to attend party meetings and activities, contravening Section 58 (1)(e) of the PDP constitution.

Unauthorised publicity of internal party disputes, breaching Section 58 (1)(i).

Forming parallel party structures at ward, LGA, and national levels.

Making derogatory public statements against the party and its leaders, bringing the PDP into disrepute.

“Hon. Imo Ugochinyere Ikeagwonu is hereby expelled from the party (PDP) with immediate effect and ceases to be a member of the Peoples Democratic Party in Umuopia/Umukegwu ward of Ideato North LGA,” the letter read in part.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach Ugochinyere for his reaction were unsuccessful.
