Manchester United’s plans to strengthen their attacking line may have hit a roadblock, as Bayer Leverkusen look set to retain Nigerian striker Victor Boniface.
The 22-year-old forward has been in scintillating form this season, scoring six goals in 10 Bundesliga appearances before being sidelined by a hamstring injury. His impressive performances have drawn interest from several top clubs, with the Red Devils among his admirers.
However, Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly determined to secure Boniface’s future. The club is said to have initiated talks over a contract extension that could make the Super Eagles star one of their highest earners.
Despite this, Manchester United remain keen on Boniface but are actively exploring alternative targets. Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyökeres has emerged as a strong candidate.
Gyökeres, who has been in sensational form since joining Sporting, boasts a remarkable record of 68 goals in 72 appearances. A potential reunion with his former manager, Ruben Amorim, could make the move enticing.
Other names linked to the Red Devils include Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush, Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen, and Paris Saint-Germain’s Randal Kolo Muani.
While Manchester United assess their options, their focus shifts to the Premier League, where they face Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The team will be eager to bounce back following a 2-0 loss to Arsenal earlier this week.
