Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, on Thursday, presented a ₦545 billion appropriation bill to the State House of Assembly for the 2025 fiscal year.

The proposed budget allocates 28% (₦151.68 billion) to recurrent expenditure and 72% (₦393.33 billion) to capital projects.

Speaking during the presentation, Governor Lawal described the budget as a comprehensive roadmap for addressing the state’s critical challenges and fostering development.

“This budget represents a vision for the future of Zamfara. It is a testament to our resolve to transform challenges into opportunities and deliver a more prosperous, secure state for our people,” the governor said, in a statement by his spokesman, Sulaiman Idris.

Highlighting his administration’s achievements over the past 18 months, Lawal noted a remarkable 240.44% increase in internally generated revenue (IGR), moving Zamfara from 36th to 26th in Nigeria’s IGR rankings.

“This improvement reflects the rigorous revenue generation strategies and reforms implemented by this administration to block leakages, enhance accountability, and expand revenue sources.

While commendable, the growth is relative rather than absolute, and we are committed to further maximizing opportunities through revenue-generating agencies,” Lawal added.

The governor also outlined transformative projects aimed at boosting the state’s financial sustainability, including the Gusau International Airport, a flagship initiative designed to align with the administration’s long-term strategic vision.

While the 2025 budget is slightly higher than the 2024 appropriation, Governor Lawal stressed that the increase responds to ongoing reforms and the inflationary pressures affecting various sectors nationwide.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to economic development, assuring citizens that the budget reflects the state’s priorities for progress and prosperity.
