A fire outbreak has destroyed the Lagos home of Mercy Aigbe, a renowned Nollywood actress, leaving significant property damage but sparing lives.
The blaze, which engulfed the actress’ multi-million naira residence, consumed many of her valuable belongings. Aigbe took to Instagram on Wednesday night to express her relief that no lives were lost.
“Devastated, but I thank God no life was lost. It is well,” the actress wrote in a video post, accompanied by footage of the fire’s aftermath.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
The incident has prompted an outpouring of support from Aigbe’s fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry, who sent messages of consolation and encouragement.
The tragedy comes just days ahead of the scheduled premiere of Aigbe’s movie, Thinline, in cinemas.
Mercy Aigbe, 46, has been a prominent figure in Nollywood for years. In January 2022, she married movie marketer Kazeem Adeoti, a partnership she described as fueled by their mutual passion for the entertainment industry.
“Together, we are building a production empire. I just felt I needed someone in the industry to collaborate with,” Aigbe said in a recent interview.
Last year, the actress converted from Christianity to Islam, attributing the decision to her love for Adeoti.
