The Kano State Fire Service has reported property losses amounting to over N132 million in a series of fire incidents across the state last month. However, timely interventions by the agency resulted in the rescue of property valued at N310.6 million.

In a statement released by the Fire Service spokesman, Saminu Abdullahi, the agency revealed that it responded to 43 fire calls, six false alarms, and five rescue operations from its 29 stations across Kano State.

Abdullahi expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and properties but commended the swift actions of fire service personnel.

“We are saddened to report the loss of three lives in these incidents, but our team was able to rescue four individuals and save property valued at over N310 million,” he stated.

The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Hassan Muhammad, called on residents to remain vigilant during the harmattan season, a period marked by increased fire risks.

“We urge all residents to handle fire and flammable materials with extreme care during this harmattan period,” Muhammad advised. “Motorists should also obey traffic laws and drive cautiously, especially during the festive season, to prevent road accidents.”

The Fire Service further emphasized the importance of promptly reporting emergencies and warned against making false calls, which could hinder their ability to respond to genuine crises.

As the harmattan season intensifies, residents are encouraged to adopt fire safety measures to reduce the risk of future tragedies.
