The House of Representatives has urged President Bola Tinubu to direct the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, to unfreeze all accounts belonging to the National Social Investment Programmes Agency (NSIPA) within 72 hours.
Lawmakers emphasized that reopening the accounts is critical for the smooth recommencement of NSIPA’s programmes, which are vital for addressing poverty, empowering youth, and promoting economic inclusivity across Nigeria.
Additionally, the House called on the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management to remove all administrative obstacles hampering the agency’s operations.
These resolutions were reached following the adoption of a motion sponsored by the Deputy Speaker and 20 other lawmakers.
The legislators expressed concern that NSIPA’s operations have been disrupted by frozen accounts, insufficient funding, and administrative challenges.
The agency’s programmes were suspended after allegations of financial mismanagement by former handlers led to investigations by anti-corruption and security agencies.
The House stressed that unblocking the accounts and resolving administrative issues are essential steps to restoring the agency’s capacity to deliver on its mandate.
