Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed confidence that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara will emerge stronger from his ongoing political challenges.

Speaking at the 1st Etche Festival of Food, Art, and Culture, Jonathan described the adversities Fubara faces as a transformative journey, likening them to the battles that shape a leader into a political general.

Amid tensions between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, which have resulted in a divided House of Assembly and occasional unrest, Jonathan urged the governor to remain focused on his responsibilities.

He emphasized that enduring and overcoming such trials are part of the path to becoming a formidable leader.

“I know you are passing through challenges, and at occasions like these, I try to keep quiet. I don’t like to say certain things.

“But this is first time you are holding a top political office. You will pass through a lot. And just know that nobody becomes a General without fighting wars.

“So, whatever challenges you are meeting now is baking you to be a General in politics. And with your total commitment and with the support I have seen from the people of Rivers State, God will surely see you through”, Jonathan said.

Jonathan also called on Rivers residents to unite in supporting Fubara, stressing the importance of stability in the state for the benefit of the Niger Delta and the nation at large.

According to him, a peaceful Rivers State is essential for Nigeria’s economic and social well-being.
