Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, successfully conducted a series of clearance operations targeting bandit hideouts in Taraba State.

The operation, codenamed “OP GOLDEN PEACE,” followed extensive confidence-building patrols, clearance missions, and engagements with local stakeholders, which bolstered security efforts in the northern region of the state.

The latest phase of the operation commenced on November 28, 2024, in Takum Local Government Area, focusing on bandit and terrorist hideouts around the Lijem High Ground.

Troops cleared these areas, extending their reach to locations along the power line near Vingiri and Vingir villages.

This move reassured local residents and restored confidence in their safety.

Subsequent operations on November 29 and 30 targeted known bandit hotspots in Kufai Ahmadu, Jam, Hingir, Ukum, and Nbaume villages.

At notorious camps in New Gboko and Che Adekpe, linked to the wanted criminal Liamdoo Douglas Adekpe, also known as “Boujogh”, troops engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle.

Overwhelming the criminals with superior firepower, the troops forced them to retreat in disarray.

During the operation, several bandit camps were destroyed. Troops recovered: 27 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 1 AK-47 magazine, 1 Baofeng handheld radio, and 2 motorcycles.

On November 30, troops advanced into the Akume and Ananum areas of Donga Local Government Area, further reinforcing the brigade’s commitment to securing lives and property in Taraba State.

The Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the unwavering support of local communities in the fight against banditry.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to security agencies.

“Together, we will ensure peace and security across Taraba State and beyond,” General Uwa assured.

The operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s determination to restore peace and stability in areas plagued by criminal activities, reinforcing its commitment to the safety and well-being of citizens.
