Nigerian football sensation Victor Osimhen, one of Europe’s most prolific strikers, has pledged to deliver the UEFA Europa League trophy to Turkey with Galatasaray.
Osimhen made the bold declaration on Thursday night after playing a pivotal role in Galatasaray’s 1-1 draw against AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Europa League. The Nigerian forward scored a crucial equalizer in the 43rd minute to salvage a point after the Dutch side’s early lead.

Speaking to Parçalı Sportz, a Turkish sports outlet, Osimhen expressed unwavering confidence in the team’s European ambitions:
“I said I would score a goal, and I did. I promise you one more thing; I will bring the UEFA Cup to Turkey.”
The striker’s statement has electrified Galatasaray supporters, who are now dreaming of a return to continental glory. Osimhen has quickly endeared himself to the fanbase with his stellar performances, fueling hopes for a historic triumph.

Istanbul Rivalry Heats Up

Meanwhile, AZ Alkmaar head coach Maarten Martens stirred controversy with comments reigniting Istanbul’s football rivalry. When asked why his side managed to beat Fenerbahçe but struggled against Galatasaray, Martens bluntly remarked:
“Galatasaray is much bigger than Fenerbahçe.”
The comment has sparked intense debate among fans and analysts, adding fire to the rivalry between Istanbul’s football powerhouses.

Galatasaray’s Europa League Standing

Currently, Galatasaray sits fourth in the Europa League table with 11 points, just two points behind the top three teams. The unbeaten side, led by coach Okan Buruk, will face Malmö FF on December 12, 2024, in a crucial Matchday 6 encounter.

Galatasaray’s illustrious European history includes winning the 1999-2000 UEFA Cup, where they defeated Arsenal in the final to become the first Turkish team to secure a European club trophy. They followed up with a UEFA Super Cup victory in 2000, and fans now hope Osimhen can lead them to another historic triumph.
