President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) on the successful revitalization of the Port Harcourt refinery, following the official commencement of petroleum product loading on Tuesday.
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), President Tinubu recognized the significant contribution of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who initiated the comprehensive rehabilitation of the country’s refineries.
The president also expressed gratitude to the African Export-Import Bank for its trust and support in financing this crucial project. Additionally, he commended the leadership of Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, whose dedication and commitment were vital in overcoming the challenges faced during the project.
With the successful revival of the Port Harcourt refinery, President Tinubu called on NNPC Limited to expedite the reactivation of the second Port Harcourt refinery, as well as the Warri and Kaduna refineries.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to repairing the nation’s refineries, stressing the importance of eliminating the perception of Nigeria as a major oil producer unable to refine its resources for domestic use.
In his statement, the president emphasized the values of patience, integrity, and accountability in rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure. He urged those entrusted with responsibilities whether individuals, institutions, or citizens to stay focused and uphold trust in their service to the nation.
Aligning with his Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to foster shared economic prosperity, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to achieving energy sufficiency, enhancing energy security, and increasing Nigeria’s export capacity.
