Nigeria’s cricket head coach, Steve Tikolo, has expressed confidence in the Yellow Greens’ prospects as they prepare to compete in the ICC T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Qualifier C. The tournament kicks off on Saturday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, with Nigeria aiming to dominate as the highest-ranked team in the group.

Currently ranked 36th in the ICC T20 rankings, Nigeria enters the competition as favorites to win their opening match against St. Helena. Speaking ahead of the qualifiers, Tikolo emphasized the team’s readiness and their ambition to claim the championship.

“For us, it’s not only about qualifying for the next round but winning the tournament and becoming champions,” Tikolo said.

The tournament holds significant importance for Nigeria as they seek to advance in the global cricketing scene. Uyi Akpata, President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), highlighted the team’s determination and the vital role of home support in achieving success.

“As the host nation and the highest-ranked team in the tournament, Nigeria is ready to lead the charge at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier C,” Akpata said. “With home support and an unyielding determination to dominate, the Yellow Greens are set to put on a thrilling show as they aim to solidify their place on the road to the World Cup.”

The Yellow Greens’ remaining fixtures include matches against Eswatini, Sierra Leone, and Botswana. The top two teams from the sub-regional qualifiers will advance to the final round of qualification, keeping Nigeria firmly focused on their goal of progressing to the global stage.
