Former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke requested permission to amend her legal suit challenging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) final forfeiture order on her seized assets.

The case is being heard by Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

During the resumed hearing, no representative appeared for the EFCC.

Justice Ekwo inquired whether Alison-Madueke’s counsel had received any filings from the EFCC, to which her lawyer confirmed receipt.

The lawyer also informed the court that a motion to amend their legal processes had been filed and duly served on the anti-graft agency.

Justice Ekwo adjourned the matter to February 17, 2025, for a hearing on the motion to amend the originating processes.

Alison-Madueke is seeking an extension of time to apply for an order to overturn the EFCC’s public notice for the sale of her property, alleging she was denied fair hearing in the proceedings leading to the forfeiture.

In response, the EFCC argued that most of the claims in Alison-Madueke’s affidavit were inaccurate.

The agency maintained that the cases resulting in the final forfeiture of her assets were properly heard and adjudicated by the courts.

This case highlights ongoing legal battles between the former minister and the EFCC over alleged corruption and asset recovery.
