The Senate, on Wednesday, invoked Section 157(1) of the Constitution to officially remove Yakubu Umar from his position as Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) following allegations of misconduct.
The decision paves the way for Abdullahi Bello to formally assume office as the new substantive Chairman of the Tribunal.
In a decisive move, 84 senators constituting the required two-thirds majority, signed in favor of Umar’s removal.
The Senate resolved to forward its decision to President Bola Tinubu for final action.
The resolution underscores the legislature’s commitment to ensuring accountability and upholding ethical standards in public office.
