President Bola Tinubu has appointed Daniel Bwala as his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications. This appointment was officially confirmed in a statement issued by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, who also announced the selection of three new directors-general for key national agencies.
“The Special Adviser on Public Communications and Media, Mr. Daniel Bwala, is a lawyer and a respected public affairs analyst,” Onanuga said in the Thursday statement.
Bwala, a former spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 presidential election campaign, had vocally criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Tinubu prior to the election. Despite his previous opposition, Bwala has since indicated a willingness to align with the APC, describing himself as “very close” to formally joining the ruling party.
“I am not a member of the PDP. Yes, I have left the PDP,” he affirmed during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today in July.
Addressing public speculation about his recent support for the Tinubu administration, Bwala clarified that his decision was not motivated by personal gain.
Beyond Bwala’s appointment, President Tinubu also announced the following key appointments:
Olawale Olopade as Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC). Olopade is an experienced sports administrator, having served as the Ogun State Commissioner of Youth and Sports and as Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for the 2024 National Sports Festival.
Dr. Abisoye Fagade as Director-General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism. Fagade, a seasoned marketing communication expert, is the founder and managing director of Sodium Brand Solutions.
Dr. Adebowale Adedokun as Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement. Adedokun previously served as the bureau’s Director of Research, Training, and Strategic Planning.
President Tinubu called on the new appointees to approach their roles with “dedication, patriotism, and excellence,” according to Onanuga’s statement.
