Super Eagles players, led by Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, and Samuel Chukwueze, recently urged teammate Alex Iwobi to perform his new song, What’s Luv?, during a team dinner and initiation ceremony for new players. The event came as the team prepared for the final rounds of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Iwobi, who plays for Fulham, has recently drawn attention not only for his football talents but also for his budding music career. His latest single, What’s Luv?, is a mix of Afro-Swing and Rap, following his debut track Don’t Shoot, and has made him the first Premier League player to officially release a song.
During the ceremony, Boniface and Chukwueze playfully pressured Iwobi to perform. “Run am for us!” they chanted in a video shared by Ola Aina on Snapchat. Boniface, in mock frustration, added, “You’ve gone to the studio to sing, perform now, you won’t,” to which Chukwueze quipped, “You’ll get more views on YouTube!”
Despite his teammates’ encouragement, Iwobi seemed reluctant to showcase his musical talent. However, he recently shared his passion for music, stating on social media, “Music has always been a passion of mine and a way for me to express myself away from football.” He hopes to inspire young people to pursue their unique interests.
As the Super Eagles prepare for their upcoming match against Benin Republic, Iwobi’s dual pursuits in football and music continue to captivate fans. While he held back from performing at the gathering, he’ll be expected to play a key role in helping Nigeria secure a spot at AFCON 2025.
