AC Milan’s Fonseca to Bench Chukwueze for Leao in Real Madrid Clash

AC Milan head coach Paulo Fonseca has confirmed that Portuguese star Rafael Leao will return to the starting lineup for the highly anticipated Champions League clash against Real Madrid, a decision that could limit Nigerian forward Samuel Chukwueze’s role in the upcoming match.

After sitting out Milan’s last three Serie A games, Leao is now set to start at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night. Fonseca, speaking during Monday’s pre-match press conference, expressed confidence in Leao’s impact, stating, “He will start tomorrow. We expect him to be able to do what he usually can.”

Leao’s absence from recent lineups had drawn attention, given his five-goal tally this Serie A season. However, he has yet to make a scoring contribution in the Champions League, where he aims to find form against Real Madrid.

Fonseca highlighted that Leao’s return aligns with Milan’s strategic game plan, suggesting the star winger’s presence is crucial for their approach to the match. “Following my instincts is key,” Fonseca remarked, reaffirming his trust in Leao as a game-changer in this pivotal encounter.

While Leao’s starting role is a boost for Milan, it’s likely to impact Chukwueze’s recent momentum. The Nigerian winger, who joined Milan over the summer, had been gaining prominence in the starting lineup, with three consecutive starts in Serie A while Leao rested.

Despite Chukwueze’s strong showings, Fonseca’s decision to prioritize Leao in the lineup indicates that the Nigerian international may be relegated to a substitute role for what could be the club’s biggest game of the season.

Fonseca’s focus on Leao suggests Milan is banking on their Portuguese star to deliver in one of Europe’s toughest arenas. As Milan prepares for the Real Madrid showdown, fans will be watching closely to see if Leao’s return pays off, and how Chukwueze might contribute off the bench.
