The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, known as the Lagos State Taskforce, impounded at least 70 vehicles on Monday for alleged traffic law violations.
In a statement, the Taskforce’s Director of Public Affairs, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, confirmed that the vehicles were seized during targeted operations aimed at reducing traffic congestion caused by reckless driving, especially by commercial transport operators.
“The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Taskforce) confiscated seventy vehicles today for flagrant violation of the Lagos State traffic law as amended,” the statement read.
The enforcement took place at locations notorious for traffic violations, including Okuta Road Junction in Bariga, Oba Akran Road near Kodesoh Underpass in Ikeja, and Ladipo by Five Star along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.
CSP Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, warned that the agency under his leadership will maintain strict enforcement of traffic and environmental laws, giving no leeway to violators.
“Only through citizens cooperation and respect for the law can we ensure environmental safety, security, and general order,” he noted.
Akerele emphasized that traffic jams are often a product of reckless driving, not a natural occurrence, adding, “The agency will not tolerate indiscipline from any motorist.”
