The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) launched a comprehensive assessment of the 2024 flood impacts, working in close partnership with State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs) and various development organizations across the country.
In an announcement on its official X account Wednesday, NEMA outlined that this joint assessment seeks to unify data from NEMA’s Emergency Operation Centre with insights from its partners.
The goal is to produce a nationally verified report that accurately captures the flood’s effects.
NEMA’s Director General, Zubaida Umar, stated that the agency is coordinating efforts with SEMAs, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the International Organization for Migration, and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
“The assessment will evaluate the flood’s impacts on communities in areas such as shelter, livelihoods, food security, water sanitation and hygiene, as well as access to information and education,” the statement read.
Umar also emphasized that, following best practices, the assessment will enable affected communities to provide input on how they can best be supported in their recovery.
