Alex Ikwechegh, the lawmaker representing Aba North and South in Abia State, is scheduled for arraignment today at the Kuje Magistrate Court in connection with an alleged assault on a Bolt driver in Abuja. The incident, which took place on October 27 at Zamfara Crescent, Maitama, involved a confrontation between Ikwechegh and the driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, during a delivery service.
The case is being managed by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Investigation Unit, which has taken charge of both the investigation and prosecution. The confrontation, captured in a video that quickly circulated online, has sparked widespread public outrage, with many Nigerians criticizing Ikwechegh’s actions.
In response to the backlash, Ikwechegh has expressed regret for his behavior, pledging full cooperation with the authorities and indicating a commitment to undergo counseling. His court appearance is set for noon today, with members of the media invited to attend and report on the proceedings.
