The federal government has called on states yet to adopt the new National Minimum Wage Act to start paying the mandated N70,000 minimum wage. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, issued this appeal after meeting with President Bola Tinubu, reiterating the administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare.
Akume commended states already complying and highlighted a collaborative framework involving federal and state officials, as well as private sector representatives, designed to address wage concerns and ensure widespread adoption of the policy.
While some states have either met or exceeded the new wage, Akume emphasized the need for all states to align with the structure, expressing optimism that full compliance will soon be achieved.
